Maersk launches refresher safety courses

UK: Maersk Training has launched five new Global Wind Organisation (GWO) basic safety training refresher courses.

Courses will cover manual handling, first aid, fire awareness, work at height and sea survival

The five GWO courses will cover manual handling, first aid, fire awareness, work at height and sea survival.

Maersk was the first company in the UK to be accredited for all five basic saftey training (BST) courses in 2012. The new courses will refresh the training of the BST courses, four of which expire after two years. The sea surival course expires after four years.

Industry professionals will be required to take the refresher courses before their certificates expire to be able to continue working in the industry.

The courses take three days to complete, with one additional day for the sea survival refresher course. Comparatively, the full GWO courses take six and a half days to complete.

Maersk's managing director Stuart Cameron said: "Our GWO basic safety training refresher courses are designed to underpin skills and knowledge previously gained to avoid skills fading and maintain a high level of awareness of safe working practices."

Courses will begin at the end of May.
