Seajacks completes Meerwind wind farm construction

GERMANY: UK-based offshore contractor Seajacks has installed the 80th turbine of the 288MW Meerwind Offshore Project.

The company’s Zaratan vessel installed the last blade on the final turbine in the project, located in the exclusive economic zone region of the German North Sea.

There are now 80 Siemens 3.6MW wind turbines in place, which, when fully operational, will produce enough power for 400,000 households.

Due to bad weather, grid connection delays and the clearance of unexploded World War II weaponry, the milestone was reached a few weeks behind schedule.

Seajack’s Zaratan and Leviathan vessels have been working on the wind farm since July last year.

The wind farm’s operator, WindMW, has also provided information for tourist boat trips to the Meerwind site.

The trips have been organised by shipping company FRS Helgoline with four trips planned in May and June and a further four spread across July, August and September.
