Westermost Rough substation ready to ship

FRANCE: The electrical substation for Dong Energy's 210MW Westermost Rough has been completed and moved to its dock ready for transfer to the UK project.

The substation before transfer to its barge

It has been loaded onto a barge at Saint Nazaire port in western France for transfer to the 210MW project, eight kilometres off England's north east coast.

The substation was built by STX France at its facility in Saint Nazaire. Weighing 1,500 tonnes, it was transferred to the barge by heavy-lifting specialists Scales.

Before it can be shipped, the piles and jacket on which the substation will sit will be transferred to the barge. This is expected to take place next week.

Westermost Rough will be made up of 35 Siemens 6MW turbines and is due to come online in 2015.

Work is progressing on the project, with Dong announcing earlier this week that ten of the turbine foundations are now in place.
