The Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n Wind Farm, a 50-50 partnership between Innergex and the Mi’gmaq, is expected online in 2016.
Hydro-Quebec will buy power from the project, which was contracted outside of the utility’s usual request for proposals process, for C$0.089/kWh.
"This project is significant to the socio-economic development of the Mi'gmaq communities of Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj. It will create wealth and jobs not only for our members, but also for our neighbours in Gaspésie and elsewhere in Quebec. We see great opportunities for the future," said chief executive Claude Jeannotte.
Over the first 15 years of operation, the Mi’gmaq communities will have the right to gradually increase their stake in the project up to 65%.
The partners did not say which turbine they will use, but Innergex has chosen Senvion (formerly Repower) turbines in other Quebec projects.
