The move follows the announcement of a strategic partnership with Japanese industrial automation firm Yaskawa Electric Corporation in October 2013.
Yaskawa manufacturers inverter drives, servo drives, machine controller and medium voltage inverters. It also produces industrial robots.
At the time, the Switch said the collaboration would facilitate work on larger capacity turbines.
Speaking about the move, the Switch marketing director Jussi Vanhanen said the Yasakawa brand will give its products a higher profile in the Japanese market.
Japan currently has a wind capacity of 2.6GW. Since the Fukushima nuclear distaster it has invested significant resources into building up its wind energy resources. This includes turbines being developed by Hitachi and MHI.
One of the Switch's latest product is the FusionDrive drivetrain developed in conjunction with gearbox manufacturer Moventas.
