Siemens picked for 450MW Neart na Gaoithe

UK: Siemens has been chosen to supply the turbines for the 450MW Neart na Gaoithe wind farm in Scotland.

The project will use Siemens 6MW turbines

Project developer Mainstream Renewable Power said that the German manufacturer has been selected as the preferred supplier and that the two parties will enter into "exclusive bilateral negotiations".

Siemens SWT-154-6MW turbines have been chosen by the Irish developer following a 16-month pre-qualification exercise.

Mainstream also announced that Marubeni, which holds a stake in the developer, and Technip will work in consortium to provide the other elements of the project's infrastructure.

The project, 16 kilometres off Scotland's east coast, received onshore construction consent in June last year.

It is expected that preliminary construction will start later this year, with commissioning due in 2017.
