The research, funded by the institute and Dong Energy, will look into the public’s and key stakeholders’ views on offshore wind.
There are four surveys. One asks general questions about people’s views on offshore wind and the others look at three specific areas: fishing-(recreational and professional), ecology/tourism and travel-(aviation and fishing).
General questions include: impact on shipping, property value, tourism, job creation, bird life and air quality. It also asks how much residents trust information from and about offshore wind companies.
Willow Research, an independent consultancy with experience in renewables research, is conducting the data collection and analysis.
Researchers come from Willow Research and Durham University’s business, engineering and computer science schools.
The projectwill end this month and the questionnaire started in mid-December and will close tomorrow. Focus groups have also been used to cover a wider range of opinions.
Results will feed into a wider academic project that DEI is carrying out on attitudes towards a range of renewable technologies, which will be published once the full analysis has been finished.
