NSW to supply cables to Kentish Flats Extension

UK: German company Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke (NSW) has won a contract from Vattenfall to supply subsea cables to the 49.5MW Kentish Flats Extension.

The Kentish Flats Extension will add 49.5MW to the existing 90MW wind farm

NSW, owned by US company General Cable, will supply 30 kilometres of medium-voltage alternating-current (MVAC) array subsea cables to the development, which lies eight kilometres off Whitstable, south-east England.

The project features 15 Vestas 3.3MW turbines — the first order for the Danish manufacturer's V112-3.3MW model, which was launched in April as a variant of the V112-3MW.

Construction of the extension will begin in mid-2015.

The existing 90MW Kentish Flats wind farm consists of 30 Vestas’ V90-3MW turbines, which it services, and was commissioned in 2005. It is also operated by Danish utility Vattenfall.
