Samsung 7MW turbine testing delayed

UK: Testing of Samsung Heavy Industries' (SHI) 7MW turbine at Energy Park Fife in Scotland has been delayed.

Testing of Samsung Heavy Industries' 7MW turbine will now start in February

Tests of the machine were due to start by the end of 2013, but this has now been pushed back to early February.

An SHI spokesperson said: "Commissioning of the offshore prototype turbine has been slightly delayed due to ongoing engineering works.

"We have removed one of the blades and expect to reinstall it in time for commissioning in early February."

Construction of the turbine was completed in October. The nacelle was installed on 18 October, followed by the attachment of the three blades, which have a rotor diameter of 171 metres, on 21 October.

The South Korean firm has invested £70 million (EUR 82 million) in the project and will have a 19-strong team to work on the testing programme over the next five years.
