The wind division is currently part of the company's industrial gear division, but Moventas has decided to run the two more independently.
The move represents a u-turn on Moventas' restructuring only last year, when the previously independent wind and industrial divisions were merged.
Last month, Clyde Blowers merged the wind division of its UK industrial gear manufacturer David Brown into Moventas.
With its development of the drivetrain for Samsung's next generation 7MW turbine, David Brown will particularly bolster Moventas' offshore wind presence.
Moventas' new wind gears business will be led by the current senior vice president Arto Lahtela, who commented: "The wind market has specific requirements that differ from other industrial gear markets.
"Our strategy concentrates fully on innovative technologies to serve customers as a strong onshore gearbox and service provider and to become the leading offshore wind gearbox supplier."
When, in 2011, Moventas was acquired by British equity firm Clyde Blowers the company made it clear that it would be restructuring its business. In 2011 Moventas filed for bankruptcy.
