Royal opening for Denmark's largest offshore wind farm

DENMARK: The 400MW Anholt project, Denmark's biggest offshore wind farm, has been officially opened by Queen Margrethe ll and prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm officially inaugurated

Dong Energy, which developed, constructed and operates the Anholt offshore wind farm, has a 50% ownership interest in the site. PensionDanmark owns 30% and PKA 20%.

The last of Anholt's 111 3.6MW turbines came online in June and were installed over an eight-and-a-half month period.  The Siemens SWT-3.6-120 unit was installed using the Sea Power vessel from the project's Kattegat site.

"The Anholt offshore wind farm was delivered on time and on budget. At the same time, we and our partners are delighted that generation from the wind farm has got off to an extremely good start," said Henrik Poulsen, Dong Energy CEO.

The project is Denmark's largest offshore wind farm covering an area of 88 square meters, eclipsing Denmark’s 209MW Horns Rev 2 project.
