Denmark's largest offshore wind farm, Anholt, is fast nearing completion, with only 14 turbines left to install, developer DONG Energy has said. If the recent good weather continues, all 111 Siemens 3.6MW turbines will be in place by the end of May.
Installation vessels Sea Power, Sea Worker, Sea Installer and Sea Jack have all been involved in turbine installation. The latter two are now involved in other projects.
In late April and early May, 20 turbines were installed in two weeks. Sea Installer achieved one-step tower installation at Anholt - the operation is normally carried out in two phases - allowing a complete wind turbine to be installed in less than seven hours.
Components for the remaining 14 turbines are ready at Grenaa Harbour. A celebratory event will be held on 9 June to celebrate both the port's 200th anniversary and Anholt's completion.
Once installation is completed, the wind turbines will be put into operation one at a time. After the first 500 operating hours, each turbine is inspected and bolts are tightened. Cable protection is also due for completion this summer.
The 400MW Anholt project, which is located 15km offshore in the Kattegat sea, is jointly owned by DONG Energy and two Danish pension funds. This means that hundreds of thousands of ordinary Danish people indirectly own stakes in it.
