Working with the National Park Service, the Boem created 234 simulations using photography, photomontages, and videos to provide an accurate representation of how wind farms would look from 18 different locations on the North Carolina shore.
Each simulation in the visualisation study uses a 200-turbine configuration at 1,000 metre spacing.
The simulations were created for two different turbine models (Siemens 3.6MW and Vestas 8MW) three distances (10,15, and 20 nautical miles from shore), and four lighting conditions (morning, afternoon starlit night, and misty night).
The Boem issued a call for information and nominations, designed to test developers’ interest, in three wind energy areas off the North Carolina coast last year.
Due to ‘very high’ interest, the Boem extended the deadline on comment periods for potential developers and the public from the end of January until 7 March this year.
