Smart Wind submits Hornsea planning application

UK: A planning application has been submitted for the first 1.2GW from the 4GW Hornsea Zone with a view to beginning construction in early 2015, according to developer Smart Wind.

Smart Wind is a partnership between Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Project Ventures, and its application was jointly submitted with partners Dong Energy for the Heron Wind and Njord wind farms.

The Planning Inspectorate (PINS) has until August 27 to decide whether to accept the Hornsea Project One consent application.

The Smart Wind said it expected a recommendation by PINS and a decision by the energy minister Ed Davey by the end of 2014. If approval is given, the developer said it will begin construction "shortly after".

A planning application for the remaining two Hornsea farms: Optimus Wind and Breesea, which should produce a further 1.8GW, is expected to be submitted next year.
