First Flight Wind signs ABPmer for EIA

UK: First Flight Wind, the consortium developing a 600MW wind project off the north-east coast of Ireland, has commissioned marine environmental consultancy ABP Marine Environmental Research (ABPmer) to work on its environmental impact assessment.

ABPmer will be deploying two wave-measuring buoys and associated instrumentation in the wind resource zone (WRZ) later this year to study the impact of the turbines and associated export cabling work.

First Flight Wind, a consortium made up of B9 Energy, Dong Energy and RES, was selected by sea-bed owner the Crown Estate as developer for the project in October 2012. It will be sited at least 8 kilometres from the coast of County Down in Northern Ireland.
