Berlin-based subsidiary Iberdrola Renovables Offshore Deutschland signed a lease agreement with Sassnitz on 19 July for approximately 100,000 square metres in the port’s offshore terminal south.
It will be used for warehousing, assembly, storage and the transportation of turbines and associated components to the site. Offices for project installation, marine co-ordination and staff transfer will also be based at the terminal.
Construction of the Wikinger project, which will contain 80 Areva 5MW turbines on jacket foundations approximately 30km north-east of Rugen Island, is due to start in late 2015 with commissioning scheduled for early 2017, said Iberdrola.
