GDF Suez has filed an appeal against the former French government's decision not to award it the right to develop an offshore wind farm at Le Tréport. GDF Suez was the only bidder for the project, but the former energy minister said its price was too high and chose not to award development rights.
The ceiling price specified in the energy ministry’s tender for Le Tréport was €175/MWh. According to rumours in the French press, GDF Suez asked for more than 30% above the ceiling, or €220/MWh.
"The idea of the appeal is to try to understand that this project has not necessarily been analysed as it should be and ask [the government] to reconsider the assessment that was done," explained Henri Ducré, deputy general manager of GDF Suez, during the energy forum, Enerpresse.
France’s former national government said the Tréport zone would be included in the second tender call for offshore wind developments. If so, other players in France's offshore wind market might should to submit bids.
The second tender remains officially scheduled for this autumn, although - as “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore has reported - it may be postponed to early 2013.
