A consent application for the first phase of the UK Round 3 Firth of Forth offshore wind development zone is on schedule, with the application due to be made this month, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore has learned.
The first phase of the Firth of Forth zone, known as Alpha, is earmarked for installed capacity of up to 525MW. Initial designs were based around 75 7MW turbines, but this has not been confirmed.
The Firth of Forth zone is being developed by Seagreen, a 50/50 joint venture established by SSE and Fluor. The two companies have previously worked together on the Greater Gabbard project. Fluor was Greater Gabbard's main contractor, becoming a topic of industry discussion after faults were discovered in the installation of many foundations.
A meteorological mast was due to be installed this summer at a site within the Firth of Forth zone. However, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore understands that this has now been pushed back to October. The met mast delay is thought to be linked to difficulties with the availability of the installation vessel.
Last month, Mainstream Renewable Power submitted a consent application for the Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm, planned for Scottish waters. If built, Neart na Gaoithe will be one of the closest offshore projects to those in the Firth of Forth zone.
