Major insurer to the German wind energy industry, Allianz Global Corporate and Speciality (AGCS), has awarded an "extensive" offshore wind-related contract to certification and inspection firm, TÜV Rheinland to oversee the loading, transport and installation of the offshore converter platform for the SylWin1 cable array.
The platform has been designed to feed up to 864MW of electricity generated by offshore wind stations planned for the eastern portion of the German North Sea into the land-based grid. These include Vattenfall’s Dan Tysk project and WPD’s Butendiek.
The converter platform is due to commence operation by mid-2013. The value of TÜV Rheinland’s contract with AGCS has not been released. "This order underscores our expertise in the offshore market. Our monitoring services help to ensure that potential risks during the installation of SylWin are excluded at the outset," said TÜV Rheinland’s Matthias Portmann.
As previously reported by “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore, the converter platform has been built by Nordic Yards on behalf of SylWin1 primary contractor, Siemens Energy.
