Fishermen’s Energy has confirmed that it will use XEMC turbines for its pilot offshore wind farm planned for waters off the US state of New Jersey. It has promised to provide documentation to quell doubts about the manufacturer's financial resources.
On Monday, attorneys for Fishermen’s filed a letter with the Board of Public Utilities (BPU), confirming the XEMC machine as its "turbine of record."
This represents a change from the developer's position in June. Then, it submitted an application to the BPU keeping its options open, and stating it would use either six 3.6MW Siemens machines or five of the originally-proposed XEMC XD115 turbines for its project.
The BPU responded by asking Fishermen’s to make a final decision on which turbines would be installed, and gave Fishermen’s until 17 September to file proposed revisions to its application.
In its letter to the BPU this week, Fishermen’s explains that global accounting firm, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, will submit documents addressing the concerns about XEMC that were raised by a consultancy advising the BPU. The report by consultancy Boston Pacific argued that XEMC's financial status cannot be verified because its financial statements do not comply with American accounting standards.
In an earlier version of its application, Fishermen’s had stated that the 25MW project off Atlantic City would use 70% equity finance from XEMC. The project received a construction permit in June.
