Forty of the 80 monopile foundations for the 288MW Meerwind Süd/Ost offshore wind farm were successfully installed by the end of January, developer Wind MW has confirmed to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore.
Foundation installation began in mid-September 2012 on the German North Sea project, with all turbines due in the water by the end of this year.
Two Seajacks vessels are being used throughout the project’s construction. Monopiles are being handled by Seajacks’ new jack-up, Zaratan, which will move onto installation of the Siemens 3.6MW turbines later this year. Meanwhile, Seajacks’ Leviatan is installing transition pieces, after which it will assist Zaratan with turbines.
Successful construction of Meerwind Süd/Ost contrasts with continuing uncertainty about exactly when the HelWin1 export cable designed to link the project to shore will be operational.
Wind MW owns a second German offshore wind concession, the 320MW Nördlichergrund project. In turn, the developer itself is owned by London-headquartered investment firm, Blackstone.
