Installation of a meteorological mast for the Firth of Forth Round 3 zone is scheduled to commence around 26 March. Fred Olsen will undertake the work for the SSE-Fluor joint venture, Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier's Brave Tern will be deployed off Scotland's east coast, with foundation installation expected to take up to four days. The topsides installation and commissioning will take up to two weeks.
Once it is in place, the met mast will support a variety of meteorological data collection equipment. The data gathered will inform the development of the Firth of Forth zone, the rights to which were awarded to Seagreen in December 2009, by the Crown Estate.
Up to 3.5GW of capacity is planned for the 2,852 km2 zone. Seagreen submitted applications to the Scottish Government in October 2012, for consent to build and operate two 525MW offshore wind farms in phase 1. Project Alpha and Project Bravo would be located 27km and 38km respectively, from the Angus coastline. Their construction could commence in 2015.
The Brave Tern was also utilised earlier this year, to install the met mast foundations for the Dogger Bank zone. The vessel is currently docked in Belfast.
