The company building the 400MW Global Tech 1 project has placed an order for ten tripod foundations with a consortium created by Iemants and Eiffage Construction Métallique.
A fresh order for the tripods proved necessary after insolvency proceedings began last October at German firm, SIAG Nordseewerke. This prevented Siag from fulfilling its contract to supply 40 tripods.
In January, Global Tech 1 took over responsibility for ensuring the order is fulfilled. Siag will build ten tripods under a "continuation agreement", while Weserwind will construct twenty. The final ten will be built by Iemants and Eiffage. Belgian-based Iemants was named last week as part of a consortium that will build the offshore converter station for the Luchterduinen offshore wind farm.
The new contract with the Belgian-French consortium allows tripod production to continue in parallel at multiple locations and should make up for lost time, according to Global Tech 1, which is 40% by the offshore wind farm’s original developer, Windreich.
Construction of the remaining 40 tripods for Global Tech 1 wind station was awarded to Arge Tripod Global Tech 1 consortium, comprising WeserWind and Erndtebrücker Eisenwerk. Half of these are completed or in the final stages of assembly.
As of the first week of April, 24 of Global Tech 1’s foundations had been installed.
