An employee of a contractor for transmission grid operator TenneT suffered a severe injury yesterday evening, while working on the HelWin1 offshore grid connection project. The employee’s life is not in danger. TenneT is investigating the cause of the accident and seeking to ascertain the exact course of events.
HelWin1 is under construction in the German North Sea, near the island of Helgoland. The 576MW, 130km connection will link the 295MW Nordsee Ost and 288MW Meerwind Süd / Ost projects to the onshore grid via the Helwin alpha platform. Landfall is at Büsum, from where the link runs to the new substation at Büttel. It should become operational this autumn.
