A jack-up vessel owned by MPI Offshore is to be chartered by GeoSea. This will be the first time GeoSea charters a vessel owned by MPI, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore understands.
The Belgian contractor will charter 600t MPI Resolution from June for approximately six months. The jack-up has already been deployed during construction of three UK offshore wind projects: Barrow, Robin Rigg and London Array. GeoSea's current offshore wind projects include construction of Thornton Bank III and Northwind.
Earlier this month, GeoSea announced it had won two new contracts from Dong Energy, which will see it contribute to installation of Westermost Rough and Borkum Riffgrund 1. Coinciding with news of the contracts wins from Dong, GeoSea forecast strong financial results for 2013 and 2014.
Meanwhile, MPI announced earlier this week that its vessel, Discovery, has begun its six-year chartership with E.ON. The German utility agreed back in 2011 to charter the jack-up and the chartership period began late last month. MPI Discovery's first job will be turbine installation for E.ON's modest 48MW Kårehamn project, a wind farm being built in the Swedish Baltic Sea. Installation of 16 Vestas V112-3.0MW turbines is due to begin next month. The vessel will also be deployed at 219MW Humber Gateway and 288MW Amrumbank West.
Across the three projects, MPI Discovery is expected to install 169 turbines, 153 monopile foundations, one substation jacket foundation and two substation topsides, according to MPI. MPI is owned by Dutch shipping group Vroon.
