Galloper geophysical survey underway

Decc decision looms on 504MW project

Gardline is undertaking a geophysical survey for the planned Galloper offshore wind farm. Work commenced on 25 April and is expected to last about a week. Gardline's survey vessel MV Confidante is being deployed in the Thames estuary, east of Clacton-on-Sea.

A final regulatory decision about the 504MW Galloper project will be announced by 27 May. Galloper is being developed by SSE and RWE, within a 35km² zone 27km off England's Suffolk coast. If approved, the project would be an extension of the adjacent 504MW Greater Gabbard development, which was completed last year. At 504MW, Greater Gabbard was briefly the world's largest operational offshore wind farm, before it was eclipsed by the 630MW London Array 1.

While SSE and RWE await a final decision about Galloper from the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change, minor works around Sizewell are also being carried out.
