A slight delay in the completion of the 288MW DanTysk project appears to have been agreed, with co-developer Vattenfall now citing "late 2014" as current timing for full commissioning. The new timetable does not include delays to foundation installation, which remains on track for completion in August.
Information about DanTysk is included in Vattenfall’s first quarter (Q1) results, issued today. These also detail the Swedish energy company’s capital investments, with wind projects – both on and offshore – representing the largest single investment category. During Q1, Vattenfall spent SEK897m (€105.1m) on wind power projects, up 27.5% on Q1 2012. It also made substantial investments in gas, coal and nuclear generation.
Vattenfall’s wind-based electricity generation totalled 1TWh during Q1, identical to output during the same period a year earlier. This represented 2.1% of the company’s electricity generation. No specific information about the level of offshore output was provided.
Earlier this week, Vattenfall announced that it has appointed an independent investigator to determine whether the company’s chief executive, Øystein Løseth, had "received additional compensation when Vattenfall acquired the Dutch company Nuon in 2009". Nuon provides energy to 2.2m customers in the Netherlands and is the owner of 108MW Egmond aan Zee offshore wind farm.
Løseth said he welcomed the investigation: "I welcome an investigation that can put an end to this rumour. It is difficult to single-handedly defend oneself against these accusations when no data is presented. I want to clarify that I have not received any extraordinary benefits."
