Offshore wind industry council holds first meeting

New government-industry partnership launched

The first meeting of the new offshore wind sector council takes place today. It precedes the delivery of a government-industry led offshore wind industrial strategy.

Due for publication in the coming months, the strategy aims to raise investment in the UK supply chain to build and maintain a competitive advantage in offshore wind. The strategy should guide industry and government in helping the UK to achieve these goals.

The council is co-chaired by Keith Anderson, chief corporate officer of ScottishPower, and business and energy minister Michael Fallon. Anderson said it was "vital that the renewable energy industry and the government continue to work closely together to unlock all of the social and economic advantages of developing offshore wind power, as well as the major environmental benefits".

Among the council's members are representatives from UK and devolved government departments, wind power developers, turbine manufacturers and other organisations in the offshore wind supply chain.
