Seagreen Wind Energy has submitted a consent application to Angus Council. It relates to the onshore infrastructure for the planned first stage development of the Firth of Forth offshore wind zone, off Scotland's east coast.
Seagreen is a 50/50 joint venture between SSE Renewables and Fluor. The application sets out its plans for 19km of underground cables. They would transmit power from landfall at Carnoustie, to the grid connection point at Tealing, north of Dundee. A new substation would also be constructed. The formal consultation period for the applications runs from 14 June until 12 July.
Seagreen plans to develop the Firth of Forth zone in three stages. Phase 1 would comprise two offshore wind farms, each of up to 525MW capacity. Consent applications for Project Alpha and Project Bravo were submitted in October 2012, to Marine Scotland. At their closest points, they would be located 27km and 38km respectively, from the shore. Each would comprise up to 75 wind turbines. The zone as a whole could eventually host around 3.5GW of capacity.
