Navitus Bay Development (NBDL), a joint venture between Eneco Wind UK and EDF Energy, announced that the ports of Poole, Portland and Yarmouth were all in the running to host the wind park’s operations and maintenance (O&M) functions.
This role would last for the entirety of the 25-year operational life of the project, which is set to be built off the coasts of Dorset and the Isle of Wight. The developer is currently engaged in public consultations and is due to make a final application for planning consent in early 2014 for the project, which if given the go-ahead could come on stream by 2020.
NBDL today also announced its intention to pursue ‘memoranda of understanding’ with the same three local ports. The aim of these agreements is to formalise Navitus Bay’s commitment to not only use local ports for O&M but to maximise opportunities for construction activities where technically feasible, for example turbine assembly and building the wind park foundations.
As part of this, the developer will conduct additional surveys and scoping work at all three sites and assist the ports with their development plans.
