Paper giant signs up Vestas for 51MW plant

SWEDEN: Paper manufacturer Holmen has signed a deal with Vestas to supply 17 V112-3.0 MW turbines for a project north of Stockholm.

Vestas' V112 3MW turbine will be used on the project
The 51MW Varsvik wind power plant will be installed in Varsvik, Norrtälje municipality, approximately 100 kilometres north of the Swedish capital. It will generate electricity for Holmen’s Hallstavik paper mill.

It is the first large-scale wind farm to be developed by the paper giant’s energy arm, Holmen Energy, which wholly or partly owns 21 hydro power stations across Sweden.

The Varsvik project is being jointly funded by Holmen Energy and Eurofideme 2, a renewable energy fund owned by French investment bank Natixis.

"It is very positive to see an increase of new entrants in the wind power industry and especially with actors representing Swedish basic industry," said Vestas Northern Europe sales vice president Krister Poole Jönsson.

Vestas’ contract for the project includes delivery, installation and commissioning of the V112 turbines.
