Gamesa wins 421MW servicing deal

SPAIN: Gamesa today signed a seven-year operations and maintenance deal with construction giant FCC to service turbines with a combined installed capacity of 421MW.

Gamesa's 4.5MW platform

The deal represents a renewal of existing O&M agreements between the firms covering 357MW, plus a further 64MW.

In total the agreement covers 397 turbines at 14 wind farms in the provinces of León, Galicia, Andalusia, Zaragoza, Teruel and Toledo. Gamesa will maintain 184 of its 850kW turbines, 93 2MW turbines and 120 660kW turbines.

Services offered under the deal include software upgrades and minor repair work. Gamesa will also install its algorithm improvement programme in the 850 kW and 2MW machines, which aims to improve turbine productivity by enhancing load curves and increasing their operating ranges.

Gamesa currently services 19.1GW of installed capacity around the world and has identified O&M as a key area for the company's growth. Last year, while Gamesa made its first ever loss as a company in 2012 of €659 million, the one area of the business to show growth was its O&M division.

Revenues in the O&M division expanded by 23%, to EUR 344 million, and megawatts under maintenance grew by 17% to 19,111MW. This came within the context of overall group revenues falling by 6.2% to EUR 2.84 billion.
