The deal is for 70 of Acciona's 3MW AW3000 turbines. Of these, 29 will be the class 3 version featuring a 125-metre rotor, while the remainder will be the 116-metre rotor, medium wind versions.
The projects are the Sao Miguel do Gostoso and Areia Branca wind farms. Installation is planned for Q3 2013, with the aim of bringing the projects online by 2014.
The turbines will use 120-metre concrete towers manufactured near the site at a temporary factory. The blades are locally sourced, while the hubs will be built in a newly commissioned Acciona factory.
The hub facility in the Bahia region of Simoes Filho is capable of producing two units a week for the AW3000 turbine.
Last year, Acciona entered the Brazilian wind market with an order for 40 AW3000 wind turbines. The turbines will be installed in Brazilian utility CPFL's 120MW Atlântica wind farm in Rio Grande do Sul, the country's southern-most state. It was Acciona's first major turbine deal in Brazil.
