Rieks had been with Vestas for 19 years and had also been its president for central Europe. However, he lasted only three weeks after replacing offshore president Anders Soe-Jensen in early 2012.
Speaking about the appointment, Rieks said: "I see great potential in GES to become a true global market leader building on the company's strong foundation in its traditional home markets in southern Europe. My ambition is for GES to become one of the top three preferred suppliers globally."
