EIL drops Enercon name in rebrand

INDIA: Enercon India (EIL) has dropped the German manufacturer's name and has rebranded itself as Wind World India.

Enercon India has rebranded as World Wind India

The company, which has been in patent-related litigation with Enercon for a number of years, announced the change on its website. It said: "India's clean energy needs remain the same, its [sic] only our name that's changed."
Wind World India was unable to respond to enquiries about the rationale behind the change.

The relationship between the two companies had become increasingly acrimonious since 2005, 11 years after EIL was set up. This culminated in 2007, when Enercon’s own representatives were effectively excluded from the EIL board.

Since then, co-operation between the two companies has stopped and Enercon has disowned the 800kW turbines being built by EIL. Until recently, the Enercon connection was still highlighted on EIL's website.
