This will make wind power the third largest power source in China, after thermal power and hydropower. By the end of June, China had 52.58GW of wind turbines connected to the grid.
Despite this, China's wind companies have all been struggling this year as installations were slowed by the government as a result of grid-access issues. Referring to this, Liu said that China would strive to promote sustainable development of the industry.
The measures include:
- Strengthening electric power system construction to admit more wind power
- Improving policies and laws and regulations with better supporting measure
- Optimising wind power development layout by giving priority to developing onshore wind farms with favourable market conditions
- Actively and reliably developing offshore wind power
- Preserving moderate wind power construction scales
He added that China should enhance cooperation with other countries with advanced wind power technologies. Chinese wind power companies should strengthen innovation capacity and participate in establishing international norms and rules.
