Vestas' 1.5GW EDPR deal extended until 2015

PORTUGAL: EDPR has had to extend a 1.5GW supply order, first signed in 2010, with Vestas by three years.

The order, which included the possibility of an additional 600MW (that was not taken up). At the time, it was the biggest deal Vestas had won.

1.5GW was to go to North America, South America and Europe between 2011 and 2012. Vestas has not stated how much of the supply order it has already fulfilled.

According to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, Vestas has supplied 890MW between 2011-2012 in Europe. However, only 99MW and 70MW have been installed in North America and Brazil respectively. It also shows, EDPR has a pipeline of 120MW in Brazil and 357MW in North America.

Vestas has said EDPR's decision does not affect its forecast of supplying 5GW in the next financial year. However, EDPR has been cutting back on wind investment in the US, where it made redundancies last year.

Speaking to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, Vestas CEO Ditlev Engel said the company was trying to prepare itself for 2013, which was likely "to be a very tough year".

Last week Vestas announced plans to cut staffing levels by 2,000 as part of a global restructure, slimming down from 18,000 to 16,000 by the end of 2013.
