The money, which will come from the EC's 'European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF), will fund a series of initiatives designed to help the workers find new jobs. Measures include mentoring, outplacement, general skills training and information on how to set up a business.
The applications for the money was made by the Danish government. The total cost of the Vestas retraining fund is €15 million with the remainder coming from the Danish government.
In January, Vestas has announced 2,335 redundancies of which 1300 were in Denmark. According to the EC, in Denmark the regions of Midtjylland (Randers, Favrskov, Aarhus and Ringkøbing-Skjern) and Syddanmark (Varde) have been badly affected by the cuts.
In a statement, the EC said: "The municipalities concerned have reported that there are no suitable job openings for the profile of the workers made redundant by Vestas Group. As a result, the highly skilled dismissed workers may need to move away to find a job."
There has been 101 applications to the EDG since its launch in 2007.
