Enercon to launch 2.5MW low wind turbine

GERMANY: Enercon is set to launch a 2.5MW low wind turbine at this month's Husum Windenergy Fair.

Enercon launched its E101 low wind turbine earlier this year

The turbine will have a 115-metre rotor and is designed for wind speeds of 7.5 metres per second. Enercon said the turbine is an extension of its E-92 and E-101 low wind turbine range.

The E-115 will be available in hub heights ranging from 92-149 metres and a prototype will be launched next year. Serial production is planned for 2014.

The turbine's nearest competitor is likely to be Nordex's N117/2400 turbine. Nordex has high hopes for the machine, especially in China, following its decision to pull out of offshore.

Enercon has been focusing on low to medium wind turbines recently, despite many of its competitors developing products for the offshore market. In May, it targeted the medium-to-low wind speed market with the E-92.

The turbine will has a 2.3MW capacity and is for locations with IIA wind conditions and is an extension of the E-82, which was launched in 2005.
