Trinity's Powerpod device is designed to supply start-up power to offshore wind turbines in the period before they are connected to the grid. It generates electricity through wave energy.
The company is set to begin offshore testing of the product later this year.
Speaking about the design, Trident CEO Steve Packard said recent onshore testing had proved the Powerpod could produce enough power for offshore turbines.
"The tests have also allowed us to validate the computer models developed under our RenewNet collaboration agreement with the world-leading Institute of Energy Systems at the University of Edinburgh.
"I am looking forward to taking Trident Energy’s technology offshore to gather operational and performance data under real environmental conditions. In parallel, we will use our validated models to design the commercial version of our generator technology."
