On Tuesday developer Infinergy's plans for 11.5MW-worth of additional turbines to the south of Burton Wold wind farm were unanimously approved by Kettering Borough Council's planning committee.

Burton Wold currently comprises 10 Enercon E70 2MW turbines owned and operated by investment firm Platina Partners.

Infinergy's approved southern extension will see the developer erect five turbines each with a maximum generating capacity of 2.3MW and a combined total maximum generating capacity of 11.5MW. Each turbine will have a maximum height of 100 metres to blade tip.

Infinergy now intends arrange finance for the project, with the aim of having the turbines fully commissioned by the end of 2014.

In additional to the Infinergy scheme, Burton Wold also has approval for a further seven 2.3MW turbines to the north of the existing wind farm. This approval was granted to the landowner in 2008 but has yet to be realised.
