The turbine is installed in a land surrounded by the sea in three sides in Dongsha village, Sanshan town of Fuqing city, Fujian province.
In September 2011, XEMC Darwind, a subsidiary of XEMC based on a former Dutch-owned offshore wind turbine developer which was acquired by XEMC in 2009, installed one 5MW prototype in the second half of 2011 in the Netherlands.
In March, XEMC Darwind won a 50MW offshore supply and installation agreement from German Hamburg-based developer Windkraft FIT. The deal is for 10 5MW XD115/5MW direct-drive turbines.
The units, which are likely to be the first Chinese offshore turbines to be installed in Europe, are to be built off the German North Sea coast in a project called Albatros 1.
Albatros
The Albatros project has an overall capacity of 474MW. No other turbine contracts have been made for the wind farm. Realisation of Albatros 1, with a contract value between €70-90 million and is expected to be completed by 2015.
The XD115/5MW onshore prototype was installed during the second half of 2011 in the Netherlands and again ranks amongst the first multi-megawatt offshore-dedicated direct-drive PMG-type turbines.
