The turbine maker will supply generating equipment for four projects totalling 870MW, up from the 600MW Pattern and Samsung agreed to buy in a deal signed last year. The deal provides lead orders for two new manufacturing facilities in the province that together are expected create up to 600 jobs.
The turbines will use towers manufactured at a CS Wind factory in Windsor and blades from a Siemens plant in Tillsonburg.
The first 400MW of capacity is expected online in March 2014, with the remainder coming into service by the end of that year.
The projects and manufacturing facilities are part of a C$7 billion deal the Ontario government signed with a Samsung-led consortium as part of its Green Energy Act (GEA).
The announcement comes in the middle of a provincial election campaign where both the GEA and the Samsung deal have come under fire, with the opposition Conservatives threatening to scuttle both if elected.
Pattern CEO Mike Garland took the opportunity to defend both initiatives, saying the jobs being created are "direct evidence" of their success.
