Power Company of Wyoming president and chief executive Bill Miller described the publication of the draft EIS as a "significant milestone" for the project, which will be located on a 320,000-acre working cattle ranch in Carbon County, Wyoming. The company expects to begin construction of the $6 billion wind farm in 2012-13 after acquiring federal, state and county approval.
At the same time as publishing the draft EIS for Chokecherry and Sierra Madre, the Bureau of Land Management also did the same for the proposed 465MW Ocotillo Express Wind Project in California, which will be sited on almost 12,500 acres of mostly bureau land.
