Alstom vice-president offshore, Frederick Hendrick said the company is searching for a port where it can locate a plant to assemble turbines, build generators and blades.
Hendrick said he expected the plant to create around 1000 direct jobs. However, it is unlikely it is going to be announced by the end of the year.
He said: "The initial plan is to create a plant with three factories for assembly, generators and blades. This is something we’d like to do on the eastern coast of the UK.
"We’re looking at locations in the northern half of the English coast because of logistics and the location of the [Round 3] projects. But we’re open to any solution."
Hendrick emphasised plans to bring onboard local suppliers. Alstom is planning to hold an event in Bolton, Lancashire over July 7-8. Over 200 companies are invited.
Alstom’s UK manufacturing plan is likely to be replicated in France. It would serve both the French offshore market as well as Belgium and Germany.
The Alstom 6MW turbine will be direct drive and has a 150 metre blade, developed by LM.
