Dong signs offshore supply deal with Bladt

DENMARK: Dong Energy today signed a long-term framework agreement for the supply of foundations to its offshore wind farms with Danish manufacturer Bladt Industries.

The agreement gives Dong Energy an option to buy up to 600 foundations from Bladt Industries, likely to be produced at Bladt's factory in Aalborg. The agreement also gives Dong Energy influence on the choice of steel suppliers.

To address the challenges offshore wind poses to foundations, Dong and Bladt have also agreed to cooperate on the design of foundations and look at ways of optimising their manufacture.

Bladt Industries has previously supplied foundations for Dong Energy's Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm, one of at least 10 European offshore wind farms to suffer problems with the grouting connections between the monopile foundations and the transition piece that holds the turbine tower.

The concrete bonding material failed in a number of cases, causing the transition pieces to slip downwards by up to 40 millimetres.
