The project its 150MW Border Winds project near Rolla, in the north of the state, is 17km from the Canadian border.
The wind farm will cover 84 square kilometres for up to 66 wind turbines.
Sequoia Energy developed the first wind farm in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The 99MW project is located in St. Leon, nearly 130km north-east of the new Border Winds project.
In March, the company hired Wes Thiessen as its chief financial officer. He previously held the same role at Craig Wireless Systems.
Last June, Sequoia Energy acquired the assets of Calgary-based renewable energy company C-Free Power Corporation and opened Sequoia Calgary in addition to its Winnipeg head office and regional Canadian and American offices.
