The deal, which is for 125 2MW turbines, was confirmed by officials of Shanghai Electric. However they were unable to confirm any other details of the arrangement.
This marks Shanghai Electric first large-scale contract outside of China. So far, it has only exported five MW-level wind turbines - three to UK and two to Thailand.
Shanghai is one of China’s largest equipment manufacturers. Its main products include 1,000MW-level ultra super-critical thermal power units and 1,000MW-level nuclear power units.
Shanghai set up a wind power equipment manufacturing branch in 2006. It is able to produce 1.25MW wind turbines with Dewind technology, 2MW wind turbines with Aerodyn technology, and independently designed 3.6MW offshore wind turbines.
Yu Yingui, chief financial officer of Shanghai Electric, said India will be a major destination of his company’s export strategy.
