Zhu Kaiqing, general manager of Shanghai East Sea Offshore Wind Power Company said the first stage of the project would be to install a 3.6MW and 5MW turbine on the west side of the bridge.
Zhu was unable to comment on who would be supplying the turbines. He added that a tender would be announced once the two turbines had been tested.
The first stage project of East Sea Bridge Offshore Wind Farm, totaling 102MW, is China’s first large-scale offshore wind farm.
Located to the east side of the Shanghai East Sea Bridge, the first stage project comprises 34 units of 3MW Sinovel turbines. It went into operation in full scale on June 8, 2010.
Offshore wind power construction is a priority in China this year. In January, National Energy Bureau said China would kick off construction of 1GW offshore wind power projects in 2011.
The public tender for 1GW offshore concession projects, totaling four wind farms in east China’s Jiangsu Province, was announced in October. They will use Sinovel, Goldwind and Shanghai Electric turbines.
