"The total amount that MidAmerican has invested or committed to wind is a staggering $5.4 billion. We can make this sort of investment because MidAmericanretains all of its earnings, unlike other utilities that generally pay out most of what they earn."
In January, Siemens has received an order for 593MW from MidAmerican Energy. It is its largest onshore wind turbine order to date, for three projects in Iowa. The project will be completed in 2012.
In 2008, MidAmerican bought Constellation Energy for $4.7 billion. The deal brought in 8.7 million extra utility customers from coast to coast. At the time the deal brought the utility’s wind capacity to 2.5GW.
